How we use AI
Svents uses AI tools to help draft articles and to analyse data. A person is responsible for what we publish: Steve Monas reviews every article, and every article carries his byline. We do not list AI as an author.
What AI does
- Drafting: AI helps write first drafts of articles from source data.
- Data analysis: AI and other software help sort, compare and summarise event and source data.
- Listings: event listings are collected and merged by automated software.
What checks the work
- Every quote, number and fact in an article is checked against its cited source by our fact-checking software before publishing. See the editorial policy.
- Steve Monas reviews each article and is responsible for it.
"How this was made"
Every article ends with a "How this was made" box. It lists the sources used, when the data was pulled, what was automated and what was checked.
The same rule elsewhere
This follows the practice Steve Monas describes on his own site. On stevemonas.com/about he writes: "The blog on this site is drafted with AI assistance as part of how I run Chronic Internet's properties", and "every post is published under my name and direction". Of his books he writes: "The books are mine, written the old-fashioned way."
Svents works the same way, with two additions: our fact-checking software checks every quote, number and fact against its source before an article can publish, and every article says how it was made.
